PROJECTS

CEBU Philippines Project
The Philippines ranked fourth among nine nations with children involved in Sex trafficking. The Province of Cebu, is the most densely populated island in the country and Cebu City is the second most significant urban center in the Philippines and has successfully promoted the region as a tourist destination where one can mix business with pleasure and is considered as one of the top five areas for child prostitution and sex tourism. Cebu City has become the destination point of internal and domestic trafficking of an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 children as young as 11 to 17 years old enslaved.
We have a property a few hours outside of Cebu City in a safe rural location that we will be breaking ground on very soon! Our plans include a refuge house and sustainable livlihood community that will accomodate 30 victims of trafficking!
This facility will be a place of refuge, restoration, healing and hope! We believe that these victims deserve a safe, inspiring environment where they can thrive. The program will include a sustainable livlihood community providing formal education and a Sewing school where they will be able to explore their creativity.
We are exicted to announce partnership with Fashion One network!

PROJECT CINCINNATI OHIO
MISS UNDERSTOOD STUDIO
Ohio ranks 5th in the nation for Human Trafficking! Experts attribute the reason to be geography as the boarders to Canada lie just above in MI and Canada International airport has been identified as major transit airport of victims. In addition, children who have been involved with the juvenile-justice or foster-care systems are at high risk for being trafficked.
In Cincinnati, Stacey's hometown, Sewing Rainbows has been involved with street outreach that has put us face to face & heart to heart with the reality of just how big of a problem this is in Ohio. It is estimated that there are more than 2, 000 children and young adults, most of whom became enslaved at the average age of 12-14 years old! To date there is NO recovery and little co-operation with the juvenile justice or foster care systems, all of whom are aware of just how many victims there are!
Sewing Rainbows has been providing Advocacy for the past year and has quickly come to realize that the lack of co-operation from the police or social services, including foster care, is due to the fact that there are currently NO programs of restoration available to the victims. We have launched the very first program locally, Miss Understood. The plans for this program are BIG! Currently, the victims are provided advocacy and a creative therapuetic program. Victims are given treatment while partaking in creative activities that promote healing and discovery of talents and gifts. This program offers victims the opportunity to explore themsleves in a creative expression that gives them hope and self worth. It is our dream that these victims will come to know their true value to this world and have the opportunity to pursue their newly discovered dreams.
The victim's jewerly and art is sold around the city as well as at our online store to raise awareness and additional funding for growth and expansion of our program offerings! There is a great need for awareness in community about these victims! It is important for our community to understand that these children didn't choose these circumstances! Miss Understood is a collaborative program in partnership with Bridge the Gap Ministries, FOCAS, & Women of Alabaster.
